The Pursuit: 3 Questions to Transform Culture
Welcome to 2025 and a more impactful “The Pursuit” newsletter!
My intent with this new-and-improved newsletter is to provide tech leaders and performers super-actionable insights and “go-do’s” related to our ever-changing industry.
Every Thursday I’ll highlight where you should be focusing your time and specific recommendations to drive your performance – all in a new, quick, easy-to-consume template. Here’s what you need to know in under 2 minutes…
What tech leaders should be thinking about this week: Re-defining culture. To win, tech managers must ensure their culture is based on both aspiration (a high-bar) and adoration (support/love). Many tech leaders forget this essential second piece, which creates a following and longer-term impact.
Why this is important: According to a December 2024 article in Forbes, tech employees are craving a more supportive, growth-mindset culture to tackle the ever-transforming world of AI and the ongoing 24/7 pace expected this year. Employee retention will also be challenging this year as the job market improves and organizations feel more confident after economic stability.
Simple “Go-Do’s” for tech leaders/performers: Incorporate three simple questions into your 1:1s to create a culture based on performance and support (also, don’t forget to ask YOURSELF these questions regularly as a manager).
- What did you learn?
- How can we improve next time?
- Where else can we incorporate wins?
Additional ways to drive impact: Looking for more ways to show-up for your team? Check yourself on the four elements of Transformational Leadership. Great tech leaders:
- Are authentic role models who inspire
- Inspire a sense of purpose
- Value creativity and autonomy
- Know that each team member is a unique individual with unique goals & unique abilities
Know someone who’s looking for quick/easy ways to show-up better as a tech leader/performer? Forward them this mail or sign them up at the bottom of the Engaged Pursuit homepage.
Happy 2025 and here’s to your (new & improved) Engaged Pursuit!
